一戰定生死的國聯外卡賽今天上午8時在紐約花旗球場登場，由巨人左投「瘋龐」龐加納對決大都會「雷神」辛德加。瘋龐以大賽心臟著稱，辛德加則是全大聯盟球速最快的先發投手，加上兩人本季還各敲3轟，投打對決精彩可期。
龐加納是巨人在5年內3奪世界大賽冠軍的要角，特別是前年的世界大賽，已經兩度先發奪勝，甚至在第5戰完封皇家的他，休息兩天後竟於第7戰後援5局無失分，實在瘋狂，年僅27歲已在世界大賽累積4勝1救援。
辛德加身高196公分，威風凜凜加上一頭飄逸金髮，活脫是好萊塢電影《雷神索爾》男主角克里斯漢斯沃的翻版，也贏得「雷神」美譽。他的四縫線（均速98.22哩）、沉球（均速98.06哩）、滑球（均速91.04哩）都是全大聯盟先發投手最快。其中甚至可以催到95哩的滑球最令打者頭痛，被打擊率僅1成62。
真要挑剔，瘋龐今年被右打敲出22轟，團隊218轟的大都會還是有機可趁；辛德加則是被盜壘成功48次為全大聯盟最多，只是巨人全隊僅3人盜壘達兩位數，雷神可以鬆一口氣。
瘋龐和辛德加不但是兩大強投，也是強打，今年各敲3轟平分秋色，還都揮出過400呎以上的全壘打。瘋龐過去3季都是大聯盟最多轟投手，今年6月底在跨聯盟比賽對陣運動家，巨人甚至放棄指定打擊，讓瘋龐去打，辛德加則是今年唯一揮出過單場雙響炮的投手。
龐加納對陣大都會的最大優勢，是他生涯6度對陣大都會從未輸過，還拿下5勝，對戰自責分率僅1.80。加上過去的季後賽口碑，在一戰定生死的外卡殊死戰，巨人不會有比他更令人放心的選擇。
辛德加雖是大聯盟二年級生，卻也有過背水一戰的經驗，在去年分區系列賽對道奇的第5戰中繼守住1分領先。且他在8月下旬最近1次對決巨人，先發8局僅被擊出2安、無失分，並不懼怕巨人打者。
